Still in Midland

53 low / 79 high

The mechanic arrived at 810am yesterday the 18th as promised the night before and had the alternator installed by 900. We settled up our bill and got ready to leave. I always check the gears and the thruster before we leave the dock and after I started the engine in neutral the boat started to move forward. I could stop it by moving the transmission to reverser which actually just put it in neutral again. I tried this several times with the same results. I made adjustments on the transmission shift cable with no changes in results. So I requested a mechanic to come out and look at it. Later Ann was describing our symptoms to a Canadian couple we had met the day before and he had had the same problem with his. He came over and we exchanged stories and it seems the plates in the transmission are warped and slipping. He recommended a shipyard in Parry Sound who rebuilt his transmission. I called them and they came to the same conclusion. We will attempt to leave here Sun. morning to arrive there that afternoon so they can tackle it Mon. morning. Our Canadian friends Don & Helen will go along with us in their boat for safety. That's the kind of people you meet on the loop.

Last night we went into town again and had Italian food at Lily's which was excellant.

Planning our routes.

Back towards the bay.

The town is famous for it's murals painted on building sides by a famous artist.

Towards the waterfront and our marina across the bay.
