Port of Orillia Marina

51 low / 79 high

We woke to a chilly 51 degrees yesterday morning. Just after 900 am we left the quiet and peaceful lock wall with just 1 more lock ahead before crossing Lake Simcoe. The next lock opened the gates as we approached and we went right in. We couldn't have had a better day to cross the largest lake on the waterway. 3 mph wind and the water was like glass. At the north end of the lake we went through an area they call the Narrows. It gets very congested during the weekends with freeway like traffic jams. Today there were just a few boats. We passed through and made a left turn into Lake Couchiching and on the Port of Orillia Marina. A huge marina with 2 year old floating docks and mostly empty at noon. It filled up quickly by late afternoon and we are glad we'll be staying through the weekend. Ann walked and I biked up through the town with it's quant shops and restaurants.
Dinner was good at Studabakers just a block away.
