Brewerton Boat yard, Brewerton, NY

We had a leisurely breakfast this morning, said goodbye to the Bridge House Brats on duty and cast off on our last leg. We had 12 miles to go and 1 lock so we took our time at 6 mph. A short stop at Winter Harbor to top off the fuel tanks and get a pump out and we arrived just about noon in Brewerton. We are right next to Ron & Jan from Adagio. They are going to cut their trip short also. We had planned to travel a lot together this summer but have just crossed paths a few times. We have traveled about 1250 miles, gone through about 84 locks and met many wonderful people. I'll continue to post every few days to keep you posted on our progress in getting the boat ready to store. Right now we're scheduled for 3 days of rain. Oh well!

Phoenix, NY, the home of the Bridge House Brats.

We arrived about noon in Phoenix. This is the home of the Bridge House Brats. This is a group of young kids that volunteer to help boaters at the city park. They will shop for them, wash their boats, walk pets, go pick up meals at local restaurants etc. They also maintain the park area and the old Bridge House museum. The are very eager to help and please. They do not accept tips but we gave a donation. Tomorrow will be the last leg of this year's journey and we are both feeling a little sad.

This guy came around us as we were tied up above lock 7 in Oswego.

Across the Lake!

We departed at 0715 in light fog this morning and couldn't have asked for a better day to cross. There was no wind and no waves. We only saw 3 other boats in the entire 50 miles. The only bad thing was the green flies. We were inundated with them. The entire aft deck covering was thick with them and they were all over the aft deck as well as all window screens. We had to put the screens up on the doors to keep them out. We used our portable vacuum so much in the pilot house that the battery went dead so I turned the inverter on to charge it. Then I got the shop vac out and tried blowing them off the back end. I then vacuumed many and blew again. Finally got enough cleared off so Ann could work the lines through the first lock in Oswego. Went through that and tied up to the wall north of the next lock for the night and washed the boat down with canal water. Still no good internet so pictures will follow.

Cape Vincent, NY

After a late start yesterday due to heavy fog we made our way to Cape Vincent. It lies just where Lake Ontario meets the St. Lawrence River. It's a nice little town and has a grocery store & liquor store. We also managed to get a propane tank refilled. No pictures again today so be ready for a bunch when I get good wifi. We set out across the lake this morning with winds less than 10 kts and seas less than 1'. It should be a good day to go.

Clayton, NY

We arrived in Clayton, NY yesterday about 1100. Walked into town and had lunch at a riverside restaurant called Bella's which was quite good. Got to spend an extra half hour due to rains. Afterwards we wandered through some of the shops and then headed to the Antique Wooden Boat Museum. This is a fabulous place and I have many pictures but can't post them with this wifi so they will come later. We really enjoyed it. Dinner on the boat as the rains continued well into the evening. Today we are off to Cape Vincent, NY which is right where the St; Lawrence joins Lake Ontario.

Just repositioning.

I can't really call today a travel day because we just repositioned from Hutchinson's Boat Yard across the American section of the St. Lawrence to the Thousand Islands Yacht Club. It's only .9 of a mile but we swung by Boldt Castle again and got some better pictures.

This is the childrens playhouse.

This marina is on Wellesley Island. The marina is tucked back in a small cove with beautiful views. There is a great restaurant, swimming pool, gym, laundry and clubhouse.

This marks the entrance to the channel.

We may be stuck here for another day as the forecast is for rain and thunderstorms. If it does break we'll head for Clayton, NY to visit the wooden boat museum and then maybe on to Cape Vincent to position for crossing Lake Ontario. I'll let you know how we did.
