Charlevoix, oops no room! Petoskey instead.

60 low / 73 high

I awoke yesterday to a beautiful day. The sun came up a bit later and I knew we'd have a great travel day. Departure was set for 800 am but it was so nice we hurried things up a bit and got underway at 715 am. The wind were light and seas were flat. We crossed under the Mackinac Bridge. It's 4 miles long and 135' high. This is also where Lake Huron meets Lake Michigan. We are heading in a westerly direction into Lake Michigan and continue that way for about 3 hours before we can turn southbound for Charlevoix due to a long reef that extends to the west from the mainland.

Michigan has state run marinas in almost every port and you have to make reservation online in advance. The cutoff time is 800 pm the night before. We missed that Sat. night by a few minutes so we had to depend on using one of 20% of slips that the marina can assign upon arrival. A call to Charlevoix around 11 am said they would know something in an hour. Noon came and went so Ron called back at 1230 and they still didn't know. A half hour later he called again with no response. We started thinking about plan B and decide to head to Petoskey instead. While underway we made our reservations for Mon. night in Charlevoix. Once you get there you can stay as long as you want. Petoskey has a pretty waterfront area and a nice marina. We had pizza for dinner at Papa Lou's.

Sunrise

Adagio headed for the bridge.

We are now back with the big ships.
