The big ship locks!

We left Thur. morning headed for Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue about 34 miles away. First we had 2 major shipping locks to go through. We arrived at the first lock just behind an ocean going freighter so we joined the wait with about 12 other boats. Commercial traffic takes priority in these locks and we can't lock through with them.

The wait was about 2 hours and when we got the green light everyone moved into position with the bigger boats against the wall and the smaller rafted alongside. The lockmasters drop ropes to the boat against the wall and they are expected to maintain position of the raft.

The wait.

In the lock.

After being raised up, it's ready, set, go! The smaller go fast boats take off and wake all of us trawlers. I think we had 6 of each. We are now off to the second lock, St. Catherine.

Rafted up again.

Shortly before 6pm we arrive in St. Anne's. The city docks here can hold about 35 boats along both side as you approach the lock. It was packed so just like a parking lot you just wait until someone leaves. We were fortunate and did not have to long. We got a space on the city side that is lined with restaurants. It's a lovely place.

Icing my sore knee!

5 am Friday.

We had dinner with John and Barbara from Go along with their friend who joined them in Montreal. Very pleasant!
