The 4th of July had a big cookout here at Shady Harbor with lots of people boating in for the weekend. The pool was packed all day. The Loopers had a potluck dinner in a room behind the ships store and they even brought over a grill for us to use. Fun time with our friends for the past few weeks.
Friday the 5th found us on another road trip. We picked up a rental car in Albany and Ann followed me in our car to Brewerton, Ny. 2 1/2 hours west along the Erie. We did see locks 14 & 15 as well as a guard gate west of them and there was still tons of debris trapped in them. We dropped the car at Brewerton Boat Yard for the rest of the summer and headed back to Albany. A quick stop at Trader Joe's for some groceries and turned in the rental car.
Sat. found us getting things ready to leave tomorrow for Lake Champlain. This is the route that most are taking now that the Erie probably won't open until around the 20th. Used the marina courtesy car to the liquor store, CVS and Ace hardware for some fittings so that I could remove a section of the overboard discharge hose. This is to be in compliance with state law and boating on Lake Champlain.
A restored home in the little town of Ravenna, NY where the stores are located. |
So if all goes as planned the next post will be from Mechanicville, NY on the Champlain Canal. More thunderstorms in the forecast all week!
