We were up early and had breakfast at 600 am in the marina restaurant. We pushed off the docks at 625 to make the first lock opening at 830 am. They only open 4 times a day so if you miss it you have a wait. The run from lock to lock is 19 miles at 5 mph. At first it was pretty but after a few hours it was like driving I10 across Texas. We only encountered 2 other boats traveling the opposite direction. At the last lock you go through a lift bridge first then the lock. Protocol has it that boats entering the canal go first then those leaving. 6 sailboats were traveling south so 5 of them entered the lock an the 6th ran aground. We waited about 1+45 for them to all clear the bridge before we could proceed. We got to Top Rack Marina in Chesapeake, Va. and took on fuel and water and pumped out. The deal here is if you eat in there upscale restaurant your dockage is free. We had a fabulous meal and will hit the sack early for the run to Zimmermans in Mobjack Bay to get the refrigerator replaced.
