With our rental car we headed south to tour Jekyll Island. The historic district is centered around the Old Jekyll Island Club and contains 33 late 19th century and early 20th century buildings. The club was built in 1888 with 53 members at that time that used it as a winter hunting club. Some of the world's wealthiest people were members and several built cottages around it. One was 9500 square feet. We took the guided tram tour for 1.5 hrs. which included going inside 2 of the homes.
The old stable which now houses a museum and the tour desk. |
The Club. |
A cottage. |
Great seafood restaurant where we had lunch. We passed by it on our way north. |
Another of the Club which is now a hotel. |
