Harbour Town Yacht Basin, Hilton Head, SC

24 May 2015    27.4 sm today

We left Isle of Hope at 800 am and had a beautiful but windy day traveling. The only surprise came as we transited Elba Island Cut, a narrow area between 2 islands. Of in the distance and out towards the ocean we saw a huge container ship coming into the Savannah River towards us. We could only see the top of the ship as the rest was obscured by the island so there was really no way to tell how far away he was. I decided to slow down because we had to cross the river heading north. Glad I did because a few minutes later we both came around the northern tip of the island. He passed in front of us and we were able to safely cross. Again we saw many dolphins.

Leaving Isle of Hope.

He won!

We arrived at Harbour Town around 1130am. After docking we walked around and had lunch. The marina is a large bowl shaped harbor surrounded by the Sea Pines Resort. It's a beautiful area with many condos spread about. Many large yachts in the basin.

The old lighthouse here marks the entrance. There is also a small beach area.

Later we took a trolley ride out to the beach. Being Memorial Day weekend it was packed.
