Charleston day 2

30 May 2015    0 sm today

Sorry no post yesterday. I had a long one prepared but I hit some key on the computer and it all instantaneously disappeared. Short story is the air conditioner pump quit pumping water and with all the activities planned for Ann's & cousin Jimmy's birthdays I called a guy to replace it for me. Be the 900 am sharp, right. 930 am and no one so I called him. Sorry I lost your number and I can't get there until noon. I replaced it myself and scratched one day of activities. We did pick up our rental car though.

Today was into Charleston early, starting at the visitor center for a 35 minute film on the history of the city. Then the free trolley to Market street where we took the horse drawn carriage tour. Very informative but the city regulates the routes so you don't know where you are going until you start. They do that for traffic.

Charleston

28 May 2015    71.2 sm today

We departed shortly before sunrise as we had a long day with several shallow areas to pass before low tide. The first was the Ashepoo Coosaw Cutoff. This was going to be near low tide so we elected the bypass out to the mouth of St. Helena Sound. We were glad we did as later we heard 2 boats on the radio that had run aground in the cutoff. The other spots were not to bad but were stressful. It was a long day and we were glad to be tied up at St. John's Yacht Harbor. Dinner was with looper friends Stel & Burke Lee of Estralita. They live here on Johns Island.

Sunrise as we depart.

A shrimper near the mouth of St. Helena Sound.

These crab floats caught a tree.

Elliot Cut where we pass through to the main Charleston Harbor.

Beaufort day 2

27 May 2015    0 sm today

We got the marina courtesy car this morning and they let us have it until 130 pm. Usually you only have 1-2 hours. So the high light today was the historic tour of old Beaufort.

Sunrise.

Merlin.

After our tour we walked Bay Street which runs along the river. Many nice shops and we had lunch at Plum's on the back porch. Back on the boat for the afternoon Ann did some research for our next stop in Charleston. Dinner was aboard and later we enjoyed a beautiful sunset.

Beaufort, SC

26 May 2015    30.2 sm today

We had a nice leisurely start today leaving Hilton Head about 1000 am. It was a short day and we wanted to time the tide in Beaufort. Another very nice day to travel. We sure have been blessed with good weather. We had dinner with 2012 looper friends Bob & Janet Scherzel from Harmony. They keep their boat at the city marina for several months during the summer.

Leaving Harbour Town.
