Visiting th Roosevelts

We rented a car yesterday and drove north along the Hudson to Hyde Park. It was raining cats and dogs all the way. Destination Springwood, the lifelong home of Franklin D. Roosevelt. We did a guided tour of the home but the presidential library was closed.

You probably can't read this but it says this is the bedroom where he was born. Another shot below.

Cameras were allowed but no flash.

Both Franklin and Eleanor are buried in the rose garden and the grave is marked by the white marble slab.

Next we were off to the CIA, Culinary Institute of America for lunch. This school provides some of the best chefs in the country. The program is about 22 months long and the last 12 weeks are spent in one of the 5 restaurants. 6 weeks in the kitchen and 6 weeks waiting tables. We had a wonderful meal and wouldn't hesitate to come back again.

After lunch we headed to Val-Kill which is the Eleanor Roosevelt National Historic site. This was her weekend and holiday retreat during FDR's presidency and her home after his death. We had no idea of the importance she played while he was president and  afterwards in the UN her role with human rights.

This was her office. Again no flash allowed.

The living room.

This is the original stone cottage on the property that FDR built. It overlooks a small lake and stream that they used to picnic by.
