What a beautiful day we had in Kingston yesterday. It was about 50 degrees when we got up but warmed rapidly to near 80. We took a taxi over the bridge into the downtown area along the waterfront. The city of Kingston dates back to the 1600's and is divided into The Rondout, or downtown, Midtown and Uptown which is about 3 miles from The Rondout where we are. We first visited some of the loopers along the docks of the Maritime Museum then walked along the streets enjoying the old buildings.
We then went to the museum which had a lot of information about the city and it's role along the Hudson River.
Notice the price of $1 to cruise down the river to NYC.
A birch bark canoe.
They used to cut ice from the river to
export to other towns.
There is a beautiful park and walk along Rondout Creek.
We waited here for an hour and a half for the taxi to get back to the marina. Had a great dinner at the little cafe there. Today will be a boat chore day and hopefully a dinghy ride up the creek and later into town for the night market. Tomorrow we head north to New Baltimore as Albany is full with boats still waiting for the Erie to open. Nothing new on when that will happen.
