We crossed Lake Okeechobe today

31 March 2015.   62 sm today.  2 locks

We left Moore Haven this morning at 730 am. Just a few yards and we went through the lock and headed south for Cleweston and the channel to the lake. The trip across of 27 miles was uneventful. The lake is very shallow and provides the water to SE Florida. It is also the second largest lake on the loop behind Lake Michigan. Once on the other side we travel on the St. Lucie canal. We saw 2 alligators today swimming across the waterway. They both dove before we could get a picture. We wanted to stop in Indiantown tonight but they were full with snowbirds having their boats stored for the summer. We ended up at River Forest Yachting Center just 10 miles south of Stuart. Our group of 3 from last night had docktails again at 500 pm. Then back to the boat for dinner and tv.

Leaving the Moore Haven lock heading south.

This is what the channel looks like.

The lock into Clewiston.

Looking out the channel towards the lake.

Port Mayaca lock on the east side. 27 miles later.

It was open and we cruised right through.

The line up at River Forest Yachting Center.

Docktails!
