Loggerhead Marina and Resort, Stuart

10 April 2015  10.0 sm today  1 lock  5 locks 2015

An addition to yesterday's post. Several miles before the marina we had a railroad swing bridge to go through. I called him on the radio and asked for an opening. He asked how far out were. I said about a mile and would be there in about 3 minutes. He told us to hurry and speed up because there was a train coming. A few minutes later he called and said he still couldn't see us and if he'd known we were that slow he wouldn't have open the bridge. As we got there the sign said "Slow Speed Minimum Wake" so I asked if we should slow. He said no, keep it fast. We all 3 got through and he closed the bridge. It was about 6 minutes later that we saw the train appear. We passed the "Resume Normal Speed" sign and actually had to pull power off.

Today was a late start due to the short distance to travel. This section of the St. Lucie canal and river is very pretty with lots of beautiful homes. We hit the lock about a mile after leaving River Forest but had to wait about 45 minutes for a boat that was coming up. This lock lowered us 13' today. After fueling and a pumpout we finally tied up about 200 pm. Walked up to the yacht club and ad lunch. We are tied to a fixed dock vs a floating dock so we have to pay attention to the tide levels when tying the lines. Here the variance is only about 14" so not to bad. We will be heading for our daughters house in Boca Raton on Friday for Easter weekend so we will be leaving the boat. Mike and Carolyn from Patriyachtik came by about 500 pm and we headed up to the yacht club for docktails. A light dinner was on the boat again due to our late lunch.

Our neighbors at the lock campground where we waited 45 min.
